Virtual Speech, Sophie Thompson
Sophie began her career by earning a First Class degree in Theology and a Distinction in MSc International Business. While pursuing her Master's degree in 2016, she co-founded VirtualSpeech and developed the world’s first virtual reality (VR) public speaking application to address her own fear of public speaking. Since then, she has created the first soft skills education platform to combine e-learning with VR practice and training, offering instant AI-powered feedback on learners’ performance.
VirtualSpeech has grown into a multi-award-winning training platform, helping over 350,000 students in more than 130 countries to enhance their skills and confidence through VR and AI. The platform’s clients include leading multinationals and universities, such as Vodafone and Warwick Business School.
Sophie has received numerous awards for her pioneering work in applying emerging technologies to education, including Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Most Inspirational Woman in Tech, and Start-Up Learning Provider of the Year. In 2019, she was named one of the Progress 1000, London's 1000 most influential people, and in 2020, VirtualSpeech's public speaking course was recognized by Forbes as one of the ten best online business courses.
Sophie has shared her journey with VirtualSpeech on live broadcasts, including BBC World News, and has been featured in prominent publications such as The New York Times, Huffington Post, and The Wall Street Journal.
